"I like to create an image that when looked at becomes something
else."
- Jasper Johns
At
a workshop on mixed media assemblage, at the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina, the artist focused on incorporating
memory into art. As a voyeur into other people's lives, she experimented with creating buildings with windows constructed
to offer assumptions about the lives of those inside. Beginning with structures that are reminiscent of a Hopper streetscape
or Van Gogh’s café and later creating a streetscape loosely based on her hometown of Katonah, the artist created
three-dimensional structures that are not fixed rectangles giving viewers the opportunity to actually peer into the work.
